My recommended study path for OSCP (2026):
Phase 1 — Foundations (2 weeks):
- TCP/IP fundamentals, OSI model
- Linux basics (file system, permissions, processes)
- Windows basics (registry, services, AD concepts)
- Python scripting fundamentals
- Networking tools: nmap, netcat, wireshark
Phase 2 — PWK Lab Machines (4-6 weeks):
- Start with Linux machines (easier for beginners)
- Buffer overflow practice (Windows 32-bit)
- Privilege escalation: LinPEAS, WinPEAS
- Active Directory attacks (if on updated syllabus)
- Document everything: enumeration, attack, foothold, priv esc, screenshots
Phase 3 — Proving Grounds / HTB (2-4 weeks):
- PG Practice: 20 boxes minimum
- HTB Easy-Medium: 30 boxes minimum
- Focus on various: Linux, Windows, AD
- Time-box: 4 hours per box max
Phase 4 — Exam Prep (1 week):
- 24-hour exam simulation (no breaks longer than 15 min)
- Practice reporting (write full reports for PG boxes)
- Review: buffer overflow checklists, priv esc cheat sheets
- Sleep schedule: fix it before exam day
